HOCKEY
BULLER SUB-ASSOCIATION. The eighth anual jtournameu; was held at Denniston on the King’s Birthday, and was again a great success in every way. A large contingent of players reached the Hill during the morning, accompanied by their supporters. Twenty-eight teams took part. Though there was a short delay in the mornng owing to teams being held up on the track, all games were completed before dark. Once again the Sub-Association was favoured with a fine day, and in the absence of frost, the playing area was in first-class order. The standard of hockey played was a great improvement on last year’s. The Denniston Silver Band played a programme of music during the afternoon, the selections ' beings greatly appreciated by those present. Tea and sandwiches were provided for the players. The several committees worked hard all day and everything went off to schedule. The splendid manner in which the spectators accepted the “keep behind the rope” request was the means of keeping the playing .area clear, allow'ng everyone to get a clear view of the play. The Association i< grateful to those who assisted on the committees for their services, and also to the v'sitnig referees who assisted the country referees. The men’s section was won by United, and the ladies’ by Rambler A. Both teams are to be congratulted on their success. At the conclusion of the tournament. Mr A. Findlay, Secretary of the Country Sub-Association, presented the Toll Cup to Miss V. Stevens, Captain of Rambler A. and the men’s cup to Mr C. Jones, captain of United Club. The Secretary congratulated both teams on their was, and thanked all those who had supported the tournament. He called for cheers for the winners, and also the losers. These were heartily given. Mr Bowden replied on behalf of Ramblers.. Mr Jones, replying, congratulated rhe SubAssociation on the successful tourament. To wind up the day a very succes ful dance was held in the Denniston Hall by the Denniston Ladies’ Hockey C’ub. The attendance was the largest which has supported tl.e local club’s annual dance. The mus'c was supplied by McGowan ’s Orchestra, the members of which are to be congratulated. Messrs T. Delaney and D. Young were M’s.C. Extras were plaved by Mr Findlay and M : ss Richards.
