(Per Press Association). NAPIER, June IL ■harge agains-t Hubert Frederick

Nunn, of the attempted murder of Mavis Smith, of Hastings, was com-

menced at the Supreme Court. Accused appeared in the dock with a sprig of ivy in a button ha ole. Much interest is being taken in the case.

Mr Lusk, for the Crown, said that prisoner’s proposal of marriage had been turned down by the parents of the girl. The alleged offence occurred late at night, after /the young lady had returned from a party. The girl was shot nt the back of the head. It was alleged that a letter in Nunn’s writing contained a statement that he intended to kill Miss Smith.
