(Our Own Correspondent.) REFFTON, Ajril 26. The Re\*. T. N. Parsons, who underwent an operation at Reefton Hospital, came through the ordeal well, and is reported to be as well as could be expected. The racehorse Noteworthy was taken by train to Greymouth on Tuesday, 'whence he will be shipped to Nelson. 'Mr E. W. Spencer’s mare. Jael. will iiiot go on to Nelson, having gone sore. Misses M. and N. Shepherd, who have been absent from Reefton for some considerable time past, have returned. Mr F. Newcombe, who has been 10 Christchurch to attend the Military Board, has returnedINANGAHUA HOSPITAL BOARD. At- the monthly meeting, Messrs J. B. Auld (chairman). F. Seawright, G. B. Mclnroe, T. R. Watson. W. Blackadder, J. O’Regan, D. McKane, and J. O ’Bryne were present. Buller VaUey Medical Association enclosed a copy of its agreement with Buller Hospital Board. Mr T. A. Keown wrote re admission of an old man patient from Hokitika district. Mr A. Walls wrote thanking' the '.Medical Officers and hospital staff for /their untiring attention to his wife i and daughters when in Hospital. The Med 1 cal Superintendent reported: Admitted 24. discharged 22. died nil; remaining in 35; operations 7. anaesthetics 7. out patients 6. attendances on out patients 20; births 6. The North Canterbury Board forwarded Dr. Mclntyre’s report on his recent Lour. Mr Blackadder moved that, the Tuberculosis Committee at Christchurch be notified that unless there are cases notifi'd from Reefton. Dr. Mclntyre be asked not to visit here. This was sec ended by Mr Mclnroe and carried. The Hospital Board’s’ Association sent a request that wages and salaries be reduced by ten p«*r cent, including the cost of residence at the institution, of all employees. The Secretary read the circular received from the Minister of Hospitals, which advised a reduction in the subsidies given by the Government, the amount t<> the Inangahna Board being £3.272. some £BO less than the previous year. The Chairman was against the reducing of wages. Mr McKane said they would have to rescind a previous motion that wages be not reduced. It was decided to carry on as at present as far as possible. The Child Welfare Department, Wellington. wrote re a child patient, whose eyesight was affected, and who was recommended for entrance into the Jubilee Institute for the Blind at Auckend, suggesting that the Board pay the fare to Auckland. The secretary stated that after consulting with the town members he had agreed to guarantee the child's fare to Auckland. On the motion of Mr Mclnroe. seconded by Mr Byrne, his action was endorsed. Mr Mclnroe brought before the Board the fact that a child of Waiuta had been left destitute by the death of her father. The Board decided to make representations to have the discontinued pension renewed. Matron Gibson reported that it was mpossible. for the laundress to carry on for any length of time during wet weather under the present conditions. It was necessary to provide either a temporary d'yitig room or an extra help in the laundry. She protested against the admission of a D.T. patient unattended to the hospital. She asked for leave of absence, for one month at an earlv date. The Chairman said Mr Hewisoii had visited Reefton and been ’nt e,t viewed, and he promised to sub m : t plans for a laundry. —Left in the hau ls of the town members to attend to. The Chairman referred to the admission of the patient in question. Mr McKanp said this should not be a! lowed. Mr Mclnroe related the manner of his admission. He had arranged for an attendant. Mr McKane objected Io Dr Wicken placing a patient in such a. condition in the hospital without, an attendant. The Chairman moved that the Medical Superintendent- and assistant be notified that no patient suffering from alcoholism be admitted to the hospital unless, accompanied by an at tendant. —Seconded by Mr Watson and carried.
