King Alfonso’s annual income from Spanish sources is estimated at £41,660 aecordng to the newspaper “La Inforaciones. ’ ’ BRITISH ASYLUM NOT ASKED. I LONDON. April 23. In the House of Commons, Mr R. Morley (Labour) inquired if an application had been received to permit King Alfonso to live in Britain. Rt. Hon. Mr Clynes (Home Minister) said: “No.” Mr Morley asked: Will the Government consider the possibility of permitting distinguished exiles to live here? Mr Taylor (Labour) asked what was the extra cost involved in the reception of King Alfonso in London. The Speaker disallowed the questions. Mr F. Brockway (Labour): Are you prepared to grant n n asylum to King Alfonso? Mr Clynes: That has not arisen. Mr Brockway: Has he a visa allowing him to visit Britain? Mr Laycock asked: Is he King, or is he Mr Alfonso? Mr Clynes said: King Alfonso comes here under similar conditions to those always prevailing at Royal visits. The Government is not taking seriously the Socialist demand for the trial of King Alfonso. Senor Zamora stated that he was too pleased Alfonso had left the country to want to take hostile measures. ALFONSO’S AUNT DEAD. PARTS, April 23. The death has occurred of Infanta Isabel, Alfonso’s aunt. “The revolution broke her heart,” is the French comment. It is recalled that when informed of the flight of the Royal Family, the Infanta declared: “I do not mind if I die on the train. I will not die in Republican Spain.” Though the Republicans invited her to remain, she rose from her sick bed and insisted on going to Paris. The Government provided a special compartment .and despite paralysis, she appeared to stand the journey well. She had since received callers, but collapsed in the af- > ternoon.
