Smith and I Rev. Bro. Fergus, and the following Lielegates: Messrs C. Hal- and F. CosItello (Marist). W. O’Neill (Runanga), I. Scott (Rapahoe). C. Pugh (Kohi-1 noor), V. Armstrong (Referees’ Association). An apology was received from Mr R. Harrington (Treasurer). , A letter was received from the K”hinof r < iub asking for the reclassifica- I l ion to junior grade of the following | nine senior players; 11. Lynch, A. •Lees, | T. Harrington, W. Hall, AL. Rogers, L. Alorresey, D. Nash, J. Thompson and J. Ford*. Mr Pugh, the Club’s de’.e-■ gate, stated that the Kohinoors could j not field a senior team, and if the ' above reclassifications were not granted they would not be able to field
even a junior team. All agreed that only two of the players were in any way outstanding. 1 On’ the motion .of Messrs Hogg and, Smith, it was decided that the reclassifications l»e granted. , The Blackball Club wrote nominaling Messrs W. Alien and IL Neilson 1 as referees. —Received. :
An application from the Rapahoe ('lub for the transfer of R. Nesbitt, \V. Brown and B. Hands from Runa iga Club to Rapahoe Club, and also for the reclassification of Hands from svni< r lo .junior. The Runanga Club
vrote that they had no objection to he transfers. It was pointed out hat Hand* had represented the South island as a senior, but on ’the motion »f Mr Hogg, seconded by Mr Barlow, lit transfers a-id the reclassification
were granted. The New Zealand Council advised the Committee that the annual meeting of the Council would be held in Auckand on Thursday, May 14, and invit-
ng delegates from the local committee mt stating that the committee could f it so desired, authorise their resi lent representatives to act on their be
uilf. — It was decided that the comnittee’s representatives in Auckland ,ttend the meeting as the West Coast
iueague’s delegates. The Ngahere Club forwarded a renit re challenge games, recommending hat challenge cup matches be played >verv time the team holding the cup tas a bye; that the 40 per cent, of the >ate takings due to thd clubs partici>ating in all matches he paid as soon i :s possible after the conclusion of the
rame; that a junior representative earn be sent on tour to Auckland this ear. The Club also enquired for the rophy due t 0 them as winners of the >ne round competition last year. The Secretary said that last year the
Challenge Cup games had been played very late last season, and the sugg.’-s--tiun was made with the object of having these games played early in the season. Hitherto the team which cha'lenged first was given the first game against the holders, but if this were adopted this would not be the case. Mr Pugh cent ended that the team which had the first challenge was entitled to the first game. The Chairman thought that if the clubs sent in the challenge by a certain date. the Fixture** Committee could then handle the matter. He moved that all clubs be notified that nil challenges for all challenge cups must be in the hands of the Secretary by June 3rd. and that the matter of arranging the games be then dealt with by the Fixtures Committee. The m ctiou was seconded by Mr Hogg and carried. It was decided to forward the fcotball to the Club as the trophy for the winners of last year’s one round competition. The Wellington Rugby League notified the Committee that it haj secured a five-year lease, of the. Show Stadium, ami asking for financial assistance. They had five good senior teams in their competition, and confidently expected a good ’ season. Rev. Bro. Feigus moved that it be a recommendation to tiie incoming Financial Committee that £5 be donated. Seconded by Mr Smith, and carried. The Sec.ctarv stated that he had re-
co: j two lots of registration forms from different dubs for J. Calder ami AL O'Brien. The cubs were Marist and Blackball. A letter was received from the Blackball Club explaining that (’alder and O’Brien signed up with the Marist, under the impression that Blackball would not be fielding a team. Both now wished to help the B'ackball Club. The Secretary said that he had sent reply-paid telegrams to both men. asking for a definite statement. He had received, a reply from O’Brien intimating that he intenih'd ! laying for Marist. No word was received from Ca der. hut it wa ■ explained that he would not be able to reply until to-morrow as he was too far awav from the Post Office.
I Mr Hogg said that both men had I asked the Brunner Y'lul) for a game. ,and a letter 'was then on the table regarding their registrations as Brunj lift- plavers, hut hi view ot what he hud heard, he asked that the Brunner applications be not coir idered. After sumo discussion it was decided on the n otion of Me sis Hogg and Smith ‘that, as O’Brien's registration form rei reived from the Ma ist Club was quite ii, order, he hr permitted to p ay for i Marist. A further resolution that the t President ami the Secretary be empovilered to take any necessary action u « !]•((•?ijj>t of confirmation from Calder of ■ hi- intentions, was moved by Rev. Bro. Fergus. Seconded by Air Barlow and carried. A recommendation was received from I tin* old Management C< mmittee that I fourth, fifth and sixth grade matches he played on Saturday. Rev. Bro. For|gus stated that the majority of fourth i graders weie working on Saturdays, ‘and would not be able to play. He thought that clubs should he asked to : ascertain if they would be able to 1 field I fourth grade teams on Saturdays. The | ('hairman moved that the matter be i referred to the Junior Advisory Board, i which controlled these grades, and that al* clubs be requested to inform I the Committee as to whether they iwou'd be able to put fourth grade ! teams in the field on Saturdays. Sec-
| ended by Mr Barlow and carried. i Another recommendation was receiv-. 1 ed from the old Management Commit ) I tee that 40 per cent, of the gate tab-, ings be paid to the clubs immediately after each match. Mr Hogg said the | recommendation was made at the sug-1 gestic-n of the Blackball and Ngahere, 'delegates i.i order that some help i i might be given to the Blackball and ' Ngahere teams when travelling to fulfil | their fixtures. He saij they would be I struck very hard, as there would be I no work at the Blackball mine this i winter, at least, which meant that I nearly al] the players would be Out of work. I The Chairman did not think they j should go beyond 33 1-3 per cent. I ' When the Blackball and Ngahere
teams had to travel they could be given their share of the trust account, and the Centre could pay the rest, but he was not in favour of giving 40 per cent, of the takings. Mr Scott said if these clubs were given assistance then other teams would be asking for help. Air Barlow said that no trust fund help should be given clubs other than the two mentioned. Rev. Bro. Fergus said it was really a matter for the Finance Committee, and he moved that that committee be recommended to deal cautiously with the matter of assistance to the Blackball and Ngahere C-übs, and that any further applications be dealt with at a meeting of the Management Committee. Seconded by Air H gg and carried. The Finance Committee was elected as follows: Messrs 2V. IL AlcKane (President), J. Anderson (Secretary) and R. Harrington (Treasurer).
The Fixtures Committee was elected as follows: Messrs J- Anderson, E. Hogg and W. Barlow. Re the appointment of a Grounds' Committee, Mr Armstrong said that last year the Runanga Domain had l>ee n declared a fit playing area, and it had crippled many players who> played on it. He had been obliged to make a report to the Management I Committee regarding the ground. The Brunner ground was also unfit for play on many occasions, and he thought that chib delegates should be appointed to the committee so that they I could report on their local grounds. I Al r Hogg said he understood that 'clubs usually notified the visiting team if the ground was playable or not. He admitted that the Brunner ground was •mt fit to play on a’d last season. I Mr Armstrong suggested that the (Founds Committee inspect all grounds before the season started properly. He considered that the Runanga ground was not lit to play on now.
T'ne ('hairman said he knew that many grounds were nut in order, but he thought the clubs should do something to keep their home grounds in order. Usually they trusted to the local bodies to do the work. He asked for nominations and Mr Hall suggested Al.’ Barlow, but Air Pugh objected to thi< suggestion, stating that vice-presi-dents had no right to nominate subcommittees at a meeting of the Alanagement .Connmittee. After considerable discussion, the ’Chairman ruled that vice-presidents were entitled to vote. No vice-president exercised hi» right, and the following grounds committee was elected: Messrs W. Barlow. R. Harrington,- F. Hugh and E. Smith. Mr W. Barlow was reappointed timekeeper al Winghani Park. On th? motion of the Chairman and Air TTogg, the Secretary was instructed to notify all clubs that they must appoint a timekeeper o i their home
grounds. Letters were received from the Wellington Rugby League ('('litre and Hie Otago Rugby League Centre expressing sympathy with the West Coast Centre i n the great loss sustained by the death of Air J. D. Wingham, and asking that their expressions of sympathy be conveyed to the relatives of the late Prescient. Alarisl, Runanga, Brunner, Rapahoe, and Waiuta Clubs wrote,* nominating teams in the competitions. Waiuta Club nominated Alcssrg J. Rodden and F. Baird as referees.— Received. The Marist and Runanga Clubs for narded chalenges for all challenge cu] s.—Received.
The Runanga Club wrote asking for the reclassification from senior to junior of G. Manderson and W. Henderson.—(4 ranted. The Aliaura Club wrote asking for the reclassification of e?*vcral senior players to junior, but the necessary forms were nut in order. It was decided that as the club required these players in order to field a team on Sunday, the matter he left to the President. Secretary an ( | Air W. Barlow. Referees’ reports were read and re-
Rev. Bro. Fergus wrote resigning his position o n the Management Committee, stating that it would be impos--1 sible to.- him to attend regularly. He ( th-.ught that in all due fairness to the oilier members he ought to resign. His | resignation was received with regret. ( It was decided that an election would •be advisable to fill the vacancy, and • for that vacancy must I be sent to the’Secretary not later than Tuesday, April 28th.
Regarding the registration of players, Air Hogg said most clubs were under Ihe impression that one regislrnt on was sufficient for a player provid <‘d he did not play the Rugby code after h s registration as a League plaver. The Chaunian said that the rules stated that all players must be registered every year. Mr Hogg considered it waste of money for men to have to be re-regist-red year after year. The Chairman agreed that much valuable time and money was being spicnt on these registrations and he moved that all Clubs be notified that a list of all th’sr play’iig members must be sent to the secretary every year,, and also that the names of any new players must lie sent on proper registration forms, the registrations to he in th? secretary’s hands not later than May 10th.—Seconded by Air Anderson and carried. Air O’Neill asked what was the position of players playing Rugby on Sat urdays. The Chairman said he did not see that they could do justice to ■■ither game. He did not think they should be. allowed to plav both codes. Air O’Neill stated that about twenty fve Runanga players would be concerned. They would be playing in junior, third and fourth grade teams. After discussion if was decided to leave the matter over till the next meeting. FIXTURES. The week-end fixtures are: Seniors:— Marbst v.
