O’CONNELL'S EASY WIN. BIG CHOP TO ADAMSON. | Tho annual meeting of the Paroa Chib was held on Saturday afternoon at. Paran in ideal weather, and in the preseriee of a largo number of spectators. O’Connell easily accounted for tho Gladstone Handicap, and Adamson annexed- the Underhand Chop. The axe given by Payette R. Plume Inc., and a gold modal were presented tho winner of tha underhand chop, T. Adamson by the President, Mr J. Nt Lauson. The gold medal, given by Mr J. O’Brien, was presented by Mrs O Brien to P. Coulston. winner of the upright, chop. The judging of the running events left much to bo desired, the decision of the judges in the final of the South Beach Handicap, in partieular, causing a good deal of adverse comment. From where the pressmen were standing, Lamont appeared to win by about two yards, with O’Connell second, and Caulton third. There wore three judges, and. the one whp was to pick third place, singled out Canlton. After' the race the judges met, and after some ten minutes discussion, decided to place ’Canlton first.
