SCHOOL COMMITTEE
ANOTHER TEACHER REQUIRED. A meeting of the Grey Main School Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs R. Barrowman (in the c air). G. Herring, W. Scott, A. J. Fairmaid. A. P. Olliver, R. J. Williams A. McDonald, and H. Herring (sec ret ary). Before dealing with the ordinary business, the Chairman referred to the appalling loss of life and poverty caused by the Hawke’s Bay earthquake. On his motion the sympathy of the Committee was accorded the sufferers a‘.id their condolence was extended to the relatives of those who had lost their lives. The motion was ca.ried in silence, all standing. ! The Education Department again notified the Committee that no subsidies | would be payable this year on voluntary contributions. The resignation of Miss Charles, at .present Assistant Teacher at Blake- > town, who has accepted a position in l Canterbury, was accepted with regret. I The Headmaster, Air S. Lorking, reported that <B3 new pupils had been | enrolled in the infant classes, there now being a total of 132 children in tiie charge of two teachers, one teachiing 69. I It was decided to approach the Board at once regarding tli<> provisiu’a of an additional teacher.
