Hie being brought to Sydney. SYDNEY, February 5. A bjll, which, will make vital changes in the condtfct and, control of the coalmining industry, has been prepared by the Statfe Cabinet. It will be submitted to Parliament within a few weeks. A board of three members, to be appointed by the Governor, will be empowered to close the mines and regulate the prices of coal, and the number of employees to be engaged in the ‘industry. Members of the Board will | be appointed for a term of seven years. A bitter attack upon the Government for its failure to provide assist--a nee for necessitous farmers, was made in the Assembly by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Bavin). He urged an immediate repeal of the leg’sI lation resorting to the forty-four houra’ ( week, and other measures designed t.o assist the city worker as against the 'farmer. Ho suggested that the Loan 'Council be approached fur financial as-
sistance to tide the farmers over the difficult period, ami further promise 1 support to the sales tax on flour, which would provide £BOO,OOO a year. Premier Lang declared that the late Government, was responsible for the recent state of the farmers, whose difficulties would be removed in the brighter days to come under the Labour Government. It 's reported that the Canberra Conference formulated a plan for the assistance of wheat growers. Details | are not announced. COMMUNISTS IN DARWIN. CANBERRA, February 5. 1 The Commonwealth Government is watching closely the events at Darwin where there has lately been considerable unrest. The Government has received information that Communists in. southern capitals are making a definite I effort to stir up. trouble there, in order ito embarrass the Government as much las possible. Accordingly instructions 1 have been given not to release the i prisoners recently convicted at Darwen following disorders in the vicinity of the Government Resident’s quarters.
