REEFTON, October 23

Miss Morris, who tendered for the Maruia Springs Accommodation House, has been asked by the Department if she is willing to accept the proposition. It is understood that the acceptance will go forward at once, and it is Miss Morris’s intention at once to proceed with the erection of the necessary buildings at the Springs to meet the requirements of the Department. During tire past year on two j the Maruia Springs have been greatly patronised by those suffering from rheumatism and kindred compl ants, as well as sufferers from gastritis, and all have invariably had relief. With the constrqction of proper accommo- ) dation, visitors to the Springs should greatly increase. j Mr N. Lawn, who has been on a j business visit to Nelson, returned lust I evening. The members of the Arbitration . Court. Mr Justice Frazer, and Messrs W. Cecil Prime (employers’ representative) and A. L. Monteith (employees’ representative) arrived from Westport this morning. The examination for mine managers’ certificates, which has been proceeding at Reefton since Tuesday, concluded to-day. Eighteen candidates out of the nineteen nominated sat, the supervisor being Mr W. E. New- j ton. of the Mines Office, Reefton. Th** death took place about mid- j night, last night of Mrs Alice Fan ell. a much-respected resident of Buller Road. The deceased had not been in the best of health for some years past, and was subject to hcarit attacks, and it was from one of these that she passed away. She was quite conscious to the end. and breathed her last in the presence of members of the fam- | illy. The late Mrs Farrell was born : at Invercargill 66 years ago. and came I | to the West Coast at an early age. I I where she. resided practically all her 1 life. She leaves a family of six children. the daughters being Mrs McEwan j (Chrjistchurch), - Miss Olive Farrell i (Defence Department. Christchurch), i and Miss. Dora Farrell (assistant County Clerk, Reefton). The sons are •Messrs Leslie (North Island Railwavs), William (Public Works. Ko-

tuku) and Harold (Public Works, Reefton). She also leaves two sisters and two brothers, the former being Mrs Hill (Sydney) and Airs MeVicarj (Blackwater), am] the first-named had concluded all preparation to ' pay a visit to her sister next month. The brothers are the Messrs Davidson, residing in the North Island. The bereaved family will receive the deepest sympathy from a very wide circle of friends. The interment will take place on Saturday.
