TIROROA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.} Two new arrivals in this district this ■week have been the baby sons of Afr and Airs Snowy Johnson (Tiroroa), and Afr and Mrs Bob Wade (Cascade). On Saturday afternoon, last the Tiroroa senior footballers played Old Boys in the first round of the Albion Cup. The game proved most exciting. Old Boys, with superior combination, were the winners, the score being 16 points to 9. For Tiroroa, Sam Grogan, Hut|ton and Ellis were the pick of the forl wards, while Linton and R. Allen were (the best of the backs. For Tiroroa ‘Linton scored, Grogan adding the major points, while Bourn kicked a field goal.

Air R. Wiskin is at present busy in camp, arranging a concert.

Air Les Hawes was admitted to the Buller Hospital on Friday night, suffering from a severe cut on the wrist.

On Friday night last, the enterprising junior Rugby team, under the leadership of Air “Amie” Jackson, held a most successful dance at Tiroroa, large numbers from all the camps being present. The hall was decorated with streamers in the team’s colours. During the evening Air L. Bourn mentioned the object of the dance, and wished the team all the best of success during their tour to Hokitika in the coming week-end. During the early hours of Tuesdaymorning one of the workmen’s huts at the Cascade bridge was burned, fortunately with no serious consequences.

During the latter part of last week all the workers’ camps in the Gorge were in deep mourning fo r the three men who lost their lives in the tunnel explosion tragedy. At the funerals of the men largo numbers were present [from among the ranks of the Public j Works Department workers. I Everyone will be pleased to know [that “Bob” Taylor, the hero of the tunnel accident, js progressing satisjfactorily. There is a movement on • foot in the camps to have his brave k deed commemorated at an early date. .The idea of recognising his heroism is I worthy of support, for what he did deserves the highest of praise. I Considering the feeling of sadness 'after the accident, all entertainments ; were cancelled, including the Bachelors’ Ball. I have interviewed several jpf.the Bachefoj-s and • they intend making arrangements to .hold the ball at an early date. Such .being the case, ’t behoves the public to support their effort to the utmost.
