London Club Team VERSUS AUSTRALIANS. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, September 6. The Australian cricketers began today a match against a London Clul. eleven, which was chosen recently by the ruling London body, namely the Ciub Conference. The team is one composed entirely of the bank clerk class, accountants and estate agents, who are confined to Saturday afternoon cricket. The Australians, who won the loss, and batted, had their initial experience of ihe larger stumps. The Conference players, composed of fairly high standard mon, were: Whitehead, Newman. Pierce, Summers, Brindly, Tttylor, Nazoerali, Jarvis, Smith, Percy and Grinter. Australia, in the first innings, were all out for 278 runs. There was a fairly largo crowd to see the match st a rt. Bradman gave a bright exhibition for 75 minutes, making 70 runs. He hit five fours, but he was missed early by Nazoerali, who mulled an easy catch. Fairfax, who made 25. also had an early life in the slips. Smith, who is the team’s fastest bowler, shaped well, as also did Blind An indifferent light after lunch caused Woodfull and Kippax to take no risks, and they were unable to force the pace. Woodful, when 69, was caught in attempting a big hit. Kippax batted soundly and scored 63. Brindley is a medium pace bowler, who represented Ceylon against Australia. The Conference Clubs’ side suffered from dropped catches. They should have dismissed Australia fairly cheaply. Scores:— AUSTRALIA—First Innings.
