Steadman, a well-known military man, arrived in Roefton last, evening, and aft£ij renewing many ol“ associations, went on to Westport. , Mr -L. Watson, Crushington, ler’t by this morning’s express for . Christchurch, en route for Auckland. Miss Arnott left tdiis morning for ■Wellington, to spend a short holiday. Mr E. W. Spencer, who has been attending the Grand National meeting nt Ricearton, returned last evening. His gelding Smithereens was left in Mr Triiford’s charge, to be prepared for jumping events. Tlie Westport St. Mary’s School football and basket-ball teams will arrive in Reefton tomorrow (Wednesday) to play the Reefton Convent High School and the District High. School. The following games will take; place:— Basket-ball.— 11 a.m,., St. Mary's v. Convent (Reefton), 2.45
p.m., St. Mary’s V. Reef ton District High, to be played at the Convent School grounds). Football.— 1.15 p.m,—St. Mary’s v. Convent (at thej Racecourse). A good day’s sport is expected aiid spectators are eordiallyj invited., . i
I The hockey- match. Married v. Isingie ladies, on the Racecourse, re-j : suited in a win for the former, bv five goals to 3. Some very goo<!< hockey was displayed. Those who showed out wonc, Mesdames Blom and Colvin, Misses Patterson Taaffe and McElwee. The forwards gave a. good exhibition. I and Misses Taaffe and Patterson in; the half line are a combination that will be hard to beat. They are playing! first class hockey, and snouid ne hard, to keep out of the Buller representative! team to play West Coast in the near: future.
