ALEXANDER REEFS MAILS. Air IL E. Holland, M.P.. has received a communication from the Post-master-General to the effect that, in order io ascertain the <ost of a regular mail service to Alexander Reefs, alternative tenders were invited for the performance of onc.<* and twice weekly services. Only one tender was received —at £39 10s for a om-e weekly service and £49 10s for a twice weekly service. The Minister says the tenderer previously offered to perform a once weekly service for £32 per an | num/ The estimated revenue from the I service is only about £5 10s per annum. I In the circumstances a relatively large I loss would be required to be borne if | either of the tenders were accepted. The Department would not be_ justified , in bearing the whole loss; and. as the >ervic<* would be for the benefit of employees of the mining company, it is considered tint the company should be juepared to contribute towards the cost. If the tenderer is prepared to perform a once-weekly service tor £.-L per annum, and the mining company : s willing to contribute half the estinated loss. viz.. £l3 Ids per annum, he service will be established. The Thief Postmaster. Grevmouth, is being instructed to communicate with the tenderer and lhe mining company accordingly.
