BRUNNER SPORTS

Record Meeting J, GILLMAN WINS BIG CHOP. WALLSEND CUP TO CBEAGH. The weather was fine and warm for the third annual meeting of the Ffunner Sports Club, held at the. Taylorville School grounds on Saturday, when a record gathering patronised the sports. A first-class prgoramnie had been arranged, and keen competition was witnessed in each event. The chopping and sawing events produced several close finishes, both saws being especially well contested. The final cf the Brunnerton Underhand Chop provided a great set-to, the honours eventually falling to J. Gillman, whose victory was popularly received. In the open sprint events, the handicaps framed by Mr E. Perkins, agair brought the runners close together at the finishing tape, the result being in foresting racing. The Brunner Handicap, 120 yards, was annexed by Kennedy. a maiden runner, who produce ! surprisingly good form. The 100 yards Handicap was alsp responsible for bringing another maiden sprinter *o (he front, namely C. Earthorn, who also collected third prize in the. Brunnerton. The pace shown by this runner, promises to qualify him for further good races ahead. The Wallsend Cup, a handsome trophy donated by the .Brunner Collieries Ltd., and valued at fourteen, guineas, induced a big number of local runners to engage in the contest for its possession. The winner, K. Creagh, ran splendidly in his heat, the semi-final and final, filling first place in each start, and his victory aas enthusiastically received by onlookers and competitors alike.

The Committee handled the meeting to tlie satisfaction of the large company present, the big programme being run off with a minimum of delay, A special word of praise is due to the Secretary (Mr J- Davidson), who worked tirelessly for weeks prior to the meeting, and on the day, to ensure success to the gathering. Although by far the busiest man on the ground, he extended every courtcsv to the numer-

ous enquirers and visitors, who much appreciated his congenial nature. The 'otJier officials and the Ladies’ Committee especially, worked conscientiously towards establishing the success of the [meeting, with the result that the af:ternoon’s programme was thoroughly [eujoyed by the public.
