State Bulk Purchase Idea (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) OTTAWA. February 12. A Winnipeg message states the proposal in London to establish an imports board to purchase the Canadian wheat surplus is meeting with the full approval of the Wheat Pool which regards the suggestion as the nearest to a solution of the w’hcat problem. It is believed that bulk purchase will prevent price fluctuations in England and middlemen’s speculation. The farmers’ agitation resulted in I the introduction <jf a Bill empowering the Minister to prohibit, control, or regulate the importation of any class of wheat. SYDNEY, February 13. Wheat, in bulk is quoted 4/ll|, bagged 5/- per bushed. Flour is £ll 10/-,: bran £7 10/- and pollard £9 per ton; potatoes. Tasmanian £9 to £lO 10/-, 1 Victorian £7 10/-; oats, white 5/-, Algerian 4/6; maize 7/-. BRITISH OVERSEA TRADE DECREASES. LONDON, February 12. The Board of Trade returns for January show imports decreased by $14,692,000, exports £8,6167.000, reexports £1,636,000. The principal decreases were: Imports, grain and flour £1,841,000, food and drink, non dutiable, £2,270,000, dutiable £1,590,000, raw cotton £4,456,000, wool £1,547,000. Exports: Iron and steel and manufactures thereof £948.000, machinery £621.000, cotton yarns manufactures £2,906,000, woollen worsted £1,114,000, vehicles £1,796,000. Increases: Imports, oils, fats £1,636,000, exports of coal £1,234,000.
