MEAT OCTOPUS
After N.Z. Companies SOUTHLAND WARNING. (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, February 16. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Southland Frozen Meat Coy, which has declared a twelve per cent, dividend. the chairman, Mr John Gilkison, stated that there was steady and continued pressure being exerted by the large oversea meat interests. This was resulting in the ownership or the control of the New Zealand meat works passing to the large oversea interests. The outlook did not promise a continuance of high prices, owing to the increased production abroad, and notably in the Argentine. While the d<rectors of the company did not desire to sell their works, he said, circumstances might prove too strong or too tempting for them.
