(Received February 4 at 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, Febrauary 4. Norman (Wizard) Smith received an ovation upon his return from New Zealand to-day. Numerous motoring friends overwhelmed him with congratulations upon his world record speed achievement on the Ninetv Mile Beach. Agrion, the former New Zealand Derby winner, now in West Australia, won the Trial Stakes of £BO at Canning Park meeting on Saturday. The victory was made possible by the follow ing conditions: “For all horses that have not won or received a stake for a flat race of a net value of £5O since September 1929.” Agrion carried 10.0, and ran seven furlongs in 1.29 1-5. Mr Hugh Trumble. Secretary of th ’ Melbourne Cricket Club, who has returned from New Zealand, said he was impressed with the progress New Zealanders were making. There were many really good batsmen there.
