Attempted with Gelignite (Per Press Association). WANGANUI,, May 13. A box containing five pounds of gelignite, with the necessary cap and fuse, was placed in the engine room of the Wanganui River Service s‘emias she lay at the Pipiriki wharf last night. The fuse was lit, but it went out after it had burned to within inches of the cap. Access was gained to the cngino room by breaking a window. The packet of gelignite was pl’cod adjacent to the engine, r cap was attached, and a length of fuse joined and run out to the shore. Evidently the culprit took the end of the fuse ashore and then cut the headline, with the result that the steamer swung out into the stream. Then the fuse was ignited, but the plan miscarried.
