Misses McDonald, Moore, Robinson, and Watt, and Messr s L. Clarke, E. L. Kehoe, and B. M. Davis, of the Technical School staff, left by Saturday’s express.

A Press Association message states that the death occurred suddenly at Auckland, of Mr H. A. Kissling, general manager of the New Zealand Insurance Co.

An Auckland press wire states that Mr Seymour Frederick Tyler, founder and director of the furnishing firm of F. S. Tyler Ltd., died on Saturday morning, after a short illness.

The engagement is announced of Nigia, eldest daughter of Mrs R. Southward, Runanga, and the late Mr A. T. Medlin, to James Colburn, fourth son of Mr J. Sweeney, Dunollie, and the late Mrs Sweeney.

A London cable states that the following New Zealanders were presented at His Majesty’s court: Mesdames J. Russell and. J. M. Tripp, Misses Elizabeth Burns, Peggy Williams, Diana Fitchett, Laura Mappin, and Doan Ritchie.

Mr and Mrs J. Martin, of Palmerston North, and Mrs Martin and daughter, Miss A. Reid, arrived on Saturday on a prolonged visit to the Coast. Mr Martin, who recently resigned his position at the Palmerston North Post Office, was accorded an enthusiastic send-off by his colleagues.

Mrs Raymond Parker, of Timaru, arrived on Saturday, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs J. K. Olney, of Ceylon, on a visit to Mrs Parker’s son, Mr W. Macintosh Murray, and son-in-law, Mr H. V. Mathias, of Punakaiki. Mrs Olney is a sister of Mrs H. P. Olney, formerly of Punakaiki, but new resident in Ceylon.

The long distance cyclist, Mr Heke, arrived in Greymouth on Saturday from Reefton. Mr Heke, who is makirg a tour of the Dominion by cycle, has only one leg, having lost the other in the War. He has an artificial limb, however, which he is able to use very effectively. He claims to be a direct descendant of th? famous Ngapuhi Chief, Hone Heke. Mr Heke leaves today for Hokitika and the Glaciers.

The death took place at Totara Flat on Friday night of Mrs Honora Kennedy, aged 66. The late Mrs Kennedy was born in Kindara, Galway, Ireland, and settled on the West Coast about 43 years ago, having resided at Totara Flat for a considerable portion cf that period. She was predeceased by her husband (Mr Patrick Kennedy) about a year ago. She is survived by a family of three daughters, Mrs P. J. Fitzgerald (Ikamatua), Mrs M. McGra:h (Greymouth) and Miss N. Kennedy (Totara Flat), and five sons, Hugh and Martin (Christchurch), and John, Patrick and Jame§ (Totara Flat). The funeral will leave the Catholic Church, Totara Flat, this morning for the Ahaura Cemetery.

The death under tragic circumstances is recorded at Christchurch of Mr Richard Neal Salt of Greymouth, and latterly Cable Sub-Editor on the staff of the Times.” The deceased, who was only about 25 years of age, was a most popular journalist, and a well-known member of the Press Club at Christchurch. A Fres s Association telegram states: On Friday evening the body of Richard Neal Salt, aged 25, of the sub-editorial staff of the “Lyttelton Times,” was found hanging inj his bedroom by a fellow lodger.
