MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS.
Visit to Greymouth. On Saturday evening Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., received the following telegram from the Hon E. A. Ransom, Mini-ter of Public Works:— J. O’Brien, Esq., M.P., Greymouth.— I will arrive in Greymouth on Monday afternoon. 20th May. from Westport, and on Monday evening will be prepar rd to receive deputations. I propose leaving for Christchurch on Tuesdav morning’s train. I am sorry I cannot give you more time on this occasion, but my available time before the session is very limited, and it is, moreover, neees-ary for me to hurry back t o Wellington, to keep engagements already made.
To the above. Mr O’Brien replied:— Hon E. A. Ransom, Minister, Public Works, Wellington—Your memo of 11th inst received. I would stronglv urge you to include Hokitika in yonr Westland itinerary, because Greymou h represents the northern end of the electorate, and Hokitika the great southern end. If it is impossible for you to spare more time, you may be able to include Hokitika by receiving deputation there at 5.30 p.m. and taking depu ations at Greymouth at 8 p.m. Kindly advise me if it is possible to extend your time, or to take in Hokitika.—(Signed) J. O’Brien. The Chairman of Grey County Council, Mr A. Robinson, received a telegram similar to the above, stating the visit would be a hurried one, and adding that on a later occasion the Min ister hoped to make a more lengthy stay.
