COLLIE DOG CLUB.
Opening in Grey Valley.
The Grey Valley Collie Dog Club held its inaugural meeting yesterday at Mr W. O’Malley’s farm, at Ikamatua. The weather was perfect and the attendance well up to 200. The programme commenced at 10 a.m., and owing to the number of entries, did not finish until 5.30 p.m., though there were no delays, time limits generally being well observed. Mr R. Innes, ot Springfield, acted as judge, and congratulated the Club on tho success of it s first meeting. He also commented most favourably on the working o the dogs. Results were as follows:— Open Class, long pull, 400yds; limit lOmins; three sheep to be worked. J. Brolwn’s "Nell,” 32ptq. 1; J. Brown’s "Glen,” 30pts 2; T. Bunbury’s "Mick,” 29pts, 3; N. Me Vicar, 28Jpts, 4. Ten competed. Open class yarding, 200yds; lOmins. —J. Brown’s "Glen,” • Brown’s "Nell,” 30pts, 2; N. MeVicar’s "Jock,” 28pts, 3; S. Haye s "Glen,” 27pts, 4. The Challenge Cup presented by Messrs T. H. Lee (Reefton) and C Sadler (Nelson Creek) wasi won by Mr ,T. Brown. In presenting the cup, M W. Clayton (president) congratulated Mr Brown on being the first to win it, and hoped that he might be fortunate enough to retain it for; a yest or two. It had been the intention of Mr .Tones to give a demonstration ot yarding, hunt away and heading, with his own dogs but as they aid not reach Greymouth till Saturday . afternoon, the' demonstration was given yester day at Totara Flat.
