MAHAKIPAWA GOLD.
PROMISING PROSPECTS. 50j OUNCES WON IN MARCH. Under date Ist April, the mine manager of Mahakipawa Goldfields. Ltd., reports: During the past week the south drive was advanced 10ft., to a point 58 feet south of Station Ila. The face is in wash of the same character as the previous week. Values up to this point are very satisfactory, but the last 50 feet of driving was especially difficult, owing to the way in which the boulders were locked in the face. Consequently the yields are lower than they would be if more favourable ground was driven through. As the present face is now at the sou h entrance of the narrow gutter, the normal wash should soon be entered as the- gutter widens 3ut. Another cross was started vo-day further sou h. This exploration work is now carried out to enable us tc keep the Plain drive in the gutter. Eighty trucks of wash were put through the boxes in the past week. Th 0 clean up for March yielded 503 ounces of gold from the smallest frontage driven since mining startThere was a great improvement wash as the drives advanced soMb. Another point worth noting the past two mon*hs’ yields have been won by an average of four men in the faces —and that in undeveloped ground.
