MOTOR VICTIMS. Maori Killed. BY FALL OF EARTH. (Per Press Association). TAUMARUNUI, April 21. A Maori named Takotahi Puhia was killed at Okakukura on Saturday as the result of a fall of earth in a’cutting in which he was working. Life was extinct when the body was recovered. An inquest was opened this morning and was adjourned. DREDGE EXPLOSION. WANGANUI, April 22. The inquiry into the dredge Kaione explosion and the dea hs of Duncan McKinnon and Joseph Cable was con eluded to-day before M r J. H. Salmon S.M. The Coroner returned a verdict that Cable died as the result of an ex plosion in the tunnel of the Kaione the cause of death being fracture of the base of the skull, a broken neck, and other injuries. The Coroner said he was unable on the evidence to say what gases were responsible for the explosion. He al-o found that McKinnon died from suffocation. resulting from burns sustained in the explosion.

The body was found in the Rakaia river, 15 miles above th e Railway bridge, yesterday, and identified as Miss Bernice Thompson, 24. daughter of Joseph Thompson, farmer, Mt. Robert James Watson Mitchell, aged 58 years, a tnarried man, was found lying dead in the kitchen of his home at Oxford Terrace with the gas ring turned on close to his headAt the inquest held to'day, the evidence was that the deceased had been in normal health, and had given no indication that he was likely to take his own life. The Coroner, Mr E. C. LeWy, S.M., returned a verdict that death was due to asphyxia, following on poisoning from coal gas. self administered.
