CHINESE GAMBLING FINE. WELLINGTON, April 18. A Chinese fruiterer, Wong Wai, aged 58, was fined £6O to-day for using his premises as a common gaming house. It was stated that a detectives raid showed that pakapoo had been played. The default was fixed at three months’ imprisonment. CAUGHT AFTER 15 YEARS. SYDNEY, April 18. Through the finger print system, the Sydney Criminal Investigation Bureau identified a man who escaped from the Central Station fifteen years ago. The man was arrested at Adelaide under a different name, and on a different charge to that preferred against him in Sydney m 1914.

WRONGFUL ARREST. MELBOURNE, April 18.

The Police Department agreed to pay the fare to New Zealand of Joseph Viseoe, a New Zealander, wrongfully arrested and detained as the result of the disappearance of Leslie Williams, the motorist, who was thought to have been murdered, bu‘ who eventually turned up at his home in Sydney. Viseoe feels aggrieved, and considers that he is entitled to at least £6OO as compensation.

The Judge at first refused, but subsequently suspended sentence for a fortnight, pending an application to the Appellate Division.
