Mr and Mrs George Alexander, of Hawera, are at present visiting Greymouth. Mr J. A. C. Bayne, Chief Inspector of Mines, arrived in Greymouth by last evening’s express *rom Wellington. Miss N. Medlin returned from a visit to Timaru by last evening’s express. Miss M. Donovan, who has been on a visit to Wellington, to Greymouth yesterday. Mrs H. Smi:h returned from Christchurch yesterday afternoon. Mr E. Warnes returned to Greymouth by last evening’s express. Mr J. Steer arrived in Greymouth by last evening’s express. Mrs M. Wai’on returned to Greymouth yesterday, having been on a visit to Timaru. Mrs Walter Scot* returned from Christchurch oy xast eveuiing’s express. Mr S. Shrimpton, High Strait, left yesterday for and Dunedin. Mr G. M. Slight left yesterday for Wellington, where he will attend the Railways Locomotive Conference. Mr J. W. Greenfflade will to-dav be nominated for the Mayoralty of Greymou h, by Messrs G. E. Perkins, J. Deere, and A. A. Adams. There is no prospect of any opposition, and Mr Greenslade will therefore hold the Chief Magistracy for a second term.

Mr P. W. Knight, of the Railway clerical staff, Auckland, who has been *d to Greymouth, was recently presentel with a piece of silver plate and a smoker’s outfit, by the two divisions of the service.

Sir Leslie is one of the most eminent members of the Bar, and his loss will be felt by his Party.

He will hold an inspection of the Grenadier Guards on the Horse Guardi Parade on May 16, to mark the occasion and on the King’s BirAv*ay.
