FINE FOR BOOKMAKERS. DANNEVIBKE, April 15. Pleading guilty t.<» a charge of loitering in High tSreet Dannevirko for the purpose of betting, William Joseph Donovan ,who keeps a tobacconist business, was fined £35 to-day by Mr J. Miller 8. M. The police sta’ed that Donovan’s chief business was betting, ami said they believed M was the agent for a big bookmaker. The Magistrate declined to accept a plea fruin counsel for the defendant, that Donovan, was only a silver bettor in view of the fact that ovj t £5O w’as found on him. after his arrest, which was the sequel to a cycle ride by Sergeant Martin on March 30th last.
