KELLOGG PACT.
BRITISH RATIFICATION. Exchange of Compliments. (Received March 4 at 5.5 p.m.) (Official Wireless.) RUGBY. March 3. The Queen and the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York, as members of the Council of State appointed to act for .he King during his illness, have signed seven documents ratifying the Kellogg Pact, which were deposited at the State Department at Washington yesterday by Sir Esme Howard (British Amba:sador), on behalf of His Majesty’s Governments in Great Britain, Northern Ireland. Sou;h Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, and the Government of India. The Canadian Minister and the Irish Minister in Washington have similarly deposited ratifications of the Paet on , behalf of His Majesty’s Government in Canada and the Irish Free State.
The following message was sent to Mr Frank Kellogg (U.S.A. Secretary of State) by Sir Austen Chamberlain (Secretary for Foreign Affairs) yesterday: “At the moment of the deposit of our ratification of the Treaty of Renunciation of War as an instrument f national policy, I offer you my heartiest congratulations on the completion of this great act with which your name will eve r be associated in the minds of men. May it link the nations of the world in peaceful co-operation, and, in particular, confirm for ever the peace which for over one hundred years has endured between the United States of America and the Brhih Empire.” Mr F. Kellogg has replied expressing his deep appreciation for Sir A. Chamberlain’s telegram, and the co-opera-tion and assistance rendered in the negotiation of the Pact,, and the promptness with which the British Em pire ratifications have been obtained in order to give an example to the world of the desire of the British Em pire to continue to do everything in its power for the maintenance of peace. WASHINGTON. March 2. In a formal ceremony at the office of Secretary Kellogg, seven British countries ratified the renunciation of the war treaty to-day, Ambassador Howard signing for Great Britain, Australia New Zealand, South Africa, and India; Mr Vincent Massey for Canada Mr William Macaulay acting as Irish Free State Minister. While the German, Italian, avl Czecho-Slovakian Ambassadors signed France, Belgium and Japan will sign later, when the ratification is received by their diplomatic representatives here. PARIS, March 1. The French Chamber of Deputies, by 570 votes to 12, has ratified the Kellogg Pact.
