FIBES AT BOURKE. SYDNEY, March 4. A large stere, refreshment room and a bootmaker’s shop w ere burned at Bourke to-day. This is the second, big fire here in a week. BIG SYDNEY FIRE. SYDNEY, March 4. A fire- On Saturday on the top floors of the Ultimo House, in the city, caused damage estimated at £60,000. The blaze started in the Simmons Printery on the top floor, and spread to the wool-brokers’ section. where £BOO worth of wool was burned. The building was owned by Mr Herbert Solomon, who is at present visiting New Zealand. Some firemen were slightly burned by molten lead falling from linotype supplies in the blazing printery. A SCRUB TRAGEDY. « SYDNEY, March 4. A West Maitland message states that the police are still investigating the discovery of the body of a female infant in the scrub. The body was decomposed and had been attacked by ants. Signs of kicking on the earth indicated’ that the child was alive when left in the bush. The police, believing that the mother might have become demented, are searching the locality.

MURDER CHARGE. SYDNEY, March 4. Herald Lever, aged 23, was shot dead at Dunedoo to-day. His father Joseph Lever, is held on a charge of murder. The father and two sons wer e travelling plumbers. It is alleged that a quarrel occurred, and the son was shot dead with a pea rifle on a river where they camped. LONG VOYAGE, MELBOURNE, March 2. The Finnish barque Sonape has arrived after nearly a five months’ voyage from Sweden. During a terrific gave in the North Atlantiq, two seamen were washed overboard and drowned. Heroic efforts at rescue almost resulted in oth e r members of the crew losing their lives. SALES GIRLS CHARGED WITH ROBBERY. SYDNEY, March 4. During the week-end the police raided a number of suburban houses and recovered goods valued at £lOOO, alleged to have been stolen from two big city stores. Seven sales girls were arrested and charged with the robberies.
