CYCLONE AND FLOODS.
IN N.S. WALES. River’s Record Height SYDNEY, March 3. There has been a cyclone along tho Coast, doiiig heavy lt ikis now passed eastward, and thus ou the North Coast of New South Wales, \ the flood peril has lessened. The rivers there rose after heavy rains, * especially the Tweed and Richmond Rivers. The latter ros 4 twenty nine feet. Over one hundred houses were evacuated. Great sheets of water are lying about, and in some v places only the roofs are visible a above the water. Thirteen inches ** oi rain fell in twenty-four hours. The tributaries of the Clarence River also rose. Tile rivers however, are now falling after having reached almost record levels. The Richmond river rose twentynine feet ht the town of Lismore. The residents in the low lying sections Of the town moved their fum.ituro and secured accommodation at the Police Station, and the other buildings. All traffic is disorganised ill the Tw. <ed River District. A hurricane off the coast caused shipping to run before it, or seek to shleter. Sailings for Newcastle from Sydney last night were cancelled.
