BRITISH ATTITUDE. Statement by Foreign Minister. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received Feb i 4 at 5.5 p.m.) (British -Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 14. Replying to questions in tit.- House ot Commons, Sir Austen Chamberlain (Foreign Secretary) said he had no official information that the new Vatican State intended to apply for uiomb Irship of the League of Nations, find it would be quite premature ♦» state the attitude of the British Government to an event which was so absolutely hypothetical- He did not think that Uj could pledge the Government not to' take such action as it thofught proper as a member of the League; ' Sir Auete /hamberlain was asked if it had i.j been made clear that the Pope was not seeking any association with the League of Nations. He replied that he understood that this was so.
Sir Austen Chamberlain .added that ne was unable to say whether the Treaty between, the Pope and. the iKng of Italy would necessitate any changes in the diplomatic relations between this country and the Vatican.
