By N.Z. Farmers. IN PASTORAL INDUSTRY. DANNEVIRKE, February 13. Dannevirke A. and P. Association’s show concluded to-day in fine weather, with a. very large attendance, including Mr Forbes, Minister of Agriculture, who paid his first visit to a show since his elevation to Ministerial rank, and Hon E. A. Ransom (Minister of Public Works) t who were entertained by the Association, his Worship the Mayor extending a civic welcome to Mr Forbes on his first official visit to Dannevirke. Subsequently both Ministers delivered short addresses to the crowd on the grandstand. Mr Forbes quoted the gradings of the butter for export for the six months to the end of January, and als o those for cheese for a similar period. He said that, provided fairly normal conditions were maintained for the remainder of the present season, a new production record was assured. The export values both fop butter and cheese were satisfactory this season. He referred to the sheep returns as showing the largest number recorded in the Dominion’s history, and pointed out that there was a continued increase in breeding ewes. He also made passing reference to the instructional and advisory services of the Government to assist all branches of rural industry, and to the facilities offered, adding that farmers should avail themselves of all the latest knowledge in sound and practical agricultural science.

In the ladies’ hunters competition, Miss Twist and Mrs A. McDonald had had spills, th e former injuring her shoulder. The latte r was unhurt. The champion hack competition was won by J N. Morrin’s Gentleman Joe. Miss Guthrie’s Digger won a triple championship in the harness, horse, cob and pony classes. The hunters competition was won by 0. Nelson’s Blue Moon; the ladies’ hunters competition by D. H. Newbigin’s Bendower, with Nelson’s Blue Moon second. The wire jump was won by Blue Moon.
