MUNICIPAL BAND.

SOLOISTS ’ CONCERT. An excellent concert, comprised entirely of test selections, was given by the soloists of the Greymouth Municipal Band at the Town Hall last evening, before a fairly larg c audience. The exceptionally high standard of excellence maintained by the Band is invariably demonstrated at each performance, but it is seldom that patrons are given the opportuni y of judging th e respective merits of the ban Ismen individually, such as the occasion provided last evening. The programme, of course, included items by several favourite performers, but each soloist, without exception, impressed th e audience with the complete mas'ery of their respective instruments, and the perfect time and excellent tone that was always maintained. The programme was as follows:— L. Halls (euphonium), “My Pretty Jane”; N. Malpas (flugel horn). “I Lombardi”; R. McMaster (tenor horn), “In My Cottage”; J. Henderson (tenor horn), “In My Cot'age”; R. Rudhall (flnge] horn), “I Lombardi”; F. Roberts (BB bass). “Humoresque”; A. Hersenbuttle (BB bass), “Humoresque”; H. F. Vincent (E Flat cornet). “Remembrance” and “Lucille 3 *’; E. Barton (euphonium), “Harmonious Blacksmith”; A. McMasters junr (cornet), “Wendouree”; L. Carruthers (tenor trombone). “Thoughts of Love”; A Smith (soprano cornet), “Tancredi” and “Silver Threads”; H. Hop e (tenor horn), “In My Cotage.” The audience was thoroughly appreciative of the splendid efforts of the bandsmen, and warmly applauded each performer. Messrs Vincent, Barton and Carruthers ; whose solo work is always delightful, being recalled. Miss B. Z. Adkins, at the pianoforte, proved a very able and sympathetic accompaniste, and contributed in no small measure toward the success of he concert.

Just before the concluding item, Mr Murray (Secretary) expressed thanks to the audience, on behalf of the bandsmen, for the assistance and encouragement accorded by their attendance. He mentioned that the Band would be giving a concert on Monday when the test piece? would be played, and other artists would be present.
