RUNANGA-CYCLE RACE. WON BY J. DEVINE. The Runanga Cycle Club held another of their popular cycle road races yesterday, the route being to the Seven Mile and back twice, a distance of 9} miles. A big number of spec-' tatori witnessed the race, and it was voted one of the best yet held. C., 'Watson was unfortunate ■in meeting with a mishap at the turn for home, which caused him to have a spill. Had he not met with the accident, it is considered Watson would have won. The large field of nineteen faced the starter, and the result was: J. Devin e (3 min). 1. Time 30.3-5. S. (1.40) 2. J. Doherty. (3.30) 3. Also started: C. Nicholson. L. Wilson. T. How-son scr, G. Taylor 45 sec, F. Sadler 1.15, W. James, A. Boote I. 11. Wilson 1.40, M. Costello, A. Currie 230, Swift, Doig 2.45, J. Medlin 3 min. C. Watson 3.30, S. Ker 3.45, J. O’Donnell 4.15. H. Wilson was fourth. Nicholson secured fastest time, 27 min 4 see. RECORDS AT WANGANUI. WANGANUI. February 10. - Two West Coast records were broken* at the annual championship meeting of the Wanganui-Taranaki Athletic Centro on Saturday night. Purvis (Wanganui) won 1h e pole vault with 9 ft 3 ins, establishing a new figure, while L. Hunt; of Hawera, threw the hammer 117 ft d ins. The inter-club banner was won by Hawera, Wanganui being second, and New Plymouth third.
