Te Kuiti Fatality. ameby succumbs. TE KUITI, January 14. Amery, who was terribly burned in the lire following the blow lamp exploeiqn this morning, died at 3.10 this afternoon from his injuries. motor collision. DRIVERS INJURED. CHBISTCHUBH, Jan. 14. Bkrious injuries were suffered by the two drivers concerned when a motor car and a motor-cycle met in a headon aolliaioh »n the Main North Road, Belfast, last evening. John Hay, a widower, aged 37, was the driver of the car. and William of Swannanoa, aged 18’, rode fIU motor cycle. A. slight, rain was falling at the time of the mishap. Both men were taken to tIU hospital, Withers with a fractured right leg and Hay with an injury to the right eye. The latter underwent an operation to-day, which necessitated the removal of the eyfr.

POLO PLAYER INJURED. GISBORNE, Jan. 14. It. K. Murphy, sheepfarmer, Muriwai, sustained concussion whilst, playing polo on Saturday. He lies in the hospital in an unconscious condition. His horse fell in a tangle of players and lolled on him.
brothers drowned. NAPIER, Jan. 14. The body of Roy Oxbrow, aged seven. the second victim of the Tuki Tuki doible drowning fatality, was recovered in the surf yesterday. AGED MAN’S SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, Jan. 14. Thomas Charles Goyen (74) committed Suicide by hanging overnight. Deceased had been in bad health for some years, and became very despondent at times. MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED. GISBORNE, Jan. 13. As the result of a collision between a motor car and a motor cycle on Saturday evening, John Jennings, aged 25, driver of the cycle, and Joseph Waters, aged 26, pillion rider, were admitted to the hospital, but their injuries were not serious. MOTORIST’S DEATH. DUNEDIN, Jan. 14. William Hanley Beal, 20, residing at Maori Hill, succumbed to injuries while working under a motor car at Maori Hill. Deceased was lying under the ear removing nuts, when his parents heard him call for assistance, and found him pinned beneath, the petrol tank. They freed him. He stood up. walked into the house, lay on the bed and expired.
HAND BLOWN OFF. WHANGAREI, Jan. 14. A distressing accident occurred at Whangarei Heads on Saturday, resulting in serious injuries t.o Thomas Hollows, aged 20. Whilst engaged snipe-shooting in an open boat, Hollows picked up a doublebarrelled gun from the bottom of the boat to have a shot at the snipe, but the firearm came in contact with the thwart and exploded, resulting in Hollows’ left hand being blown away and the forearm filled with shot. The injured man was placed aboard the launch Eva, a tourniquet was applied, and lie was brought to the district hospital, where he received surgical attention. CYCLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED. ASHBURTON, Jan. 14. Donald Kelland, twenty-one, was admitted to the Hospital last evening suffering from a fractured skull and lacerations to the face, the result of a motor cycle he was riding, skidding ir loose shingle near Hinds. His condition -is serious. He is still unconscious.
SHARK ATTACK'S WOMEN. IN TIDAL CREK. PUKEKOHE, January 14. While bathing in a tidal crek near Miranda wharf, on Friday evening, Mrs J. C. Foote, wife of a Pipiroa settler, and a female companion were attacked by a shark. The latter was the first victim and received a nasty bite in the thigh. She screamed for help, Mrs Foote going t® her assistance, and when near her companion she received a bite in the right forearm, and lost n o ,time in gaining the shore. Later the fin of a shark was observed cutting through the water, but disappeared. Th e women’s wounds wer e attended to, aiuPthey are now progressing favourably. Miranda is situated on the Hauraki Gulf, midway between Waitakaruru and New Brighton.
