RUNAWAY TRUCKS. ADELAIDE, Jan. 12. During shunting operations at Mount Lofty, a guards van and twenty-one trucks dashed down the line at a speed of eighty miles an hour. Four and ahalf miles away the trucks were derailed and some were smashed to pieces. The track was uprooted. Pigs and sheep the trucks valued at £llOO were killed. None of the train crew were aboard. TWELVE GREEKS MISSING. SYDNEY, Jan. 12. A Bombala message reports that twelve Greeks, who were employed as sleeper-cutters in the vicinity of the Whipstick mines, where the buildings are all demolished, arc missing. Great havoc has been wrought among road camps at Mount Darragh. A large powder magazine blew up, hurling rock and planking hundreds of yards. C. Farrell, carrier, was driving a wagon loaded with petrol, when flames set fire to the wagon. Farrell liberated the horses before the exploding petrol shattered the vehicle.

KANAKAS PUNISHED. SYDNEY, Jan. 12. A Rabaul message states that the Administrator promised a commission will inquire into the native disturbance. Disciplinary action has been taken against members of the native police who took part in the recent mutiny, and six months’ imprisonment was imposed on those who absented themselves from duty. The suspended ringleaders have beeu remanded to the Supreme Court! for sentence on a charge of conspiracy.

SHOT SON-IN-LAW. BRISBANE, January 14. Havihg told his friends that he expected troubii.' when he got back, Richard De vert thirty three, was shot dead at the gate of his father-in-law's bouse, at Woody Point. The father-in-law has been arrested and charged with murder.
