HOUSE ABLAZE. !
MAN’S SHOCKING INJURIES. TE KUITI, January 14. As the result of an explosion of a blow-lamp, a fire occurred in a twos‘orey wooden premises of A. Blackman, undertaker, at 10 a.m. to-day. The fire completely destroyed the upper portion of th c building and the contents, comprising a cabinetmaker’s plant. Amos Augustus Avery, plumber, was working in the building with Blackman, and was jammed in the door whilst attempting to escape, and was shockingly burned all over thc body. Fears are entertained for his life. Blackman escaped without injury. The brigade had a hard fight for over a~i hour before the fire was suppressed. The building was insured for £275.
CITY SHOP AFIRE. WELLINGTON, January 14. Shortly before three o’clock yesterday morning, th e sole occupant of 35 Cambridge Terrace found the building to be on fire, and escaped through a window. The building, which was two-storeyed, contained five rooms, and was occupied by J. Watts, bootmaker. Th e brigade was called in, and speedily extinguished the blaze, the origin of which is unknown. The insurances were: Machinery £435 (Australia); stock and furniture £250 (New Zealand); personal effects £lOO (Alliance). The cover on the building is not available*
