MISHAP TO ROTORUA. VESSEL RETURNING TO WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. The Rotorua, which sailed on Thursday for England, with sixty-five passengers, and carrying a large cargo of dairy produce, frozen meat and wool, radioed yesterday that she is returning to port, owing to the discovery of a leak in the packing of the stern gland of the starboard propellor shaft. There is no cause for anxiety. A later message states that when the Rotorua was 180 miles from Wellington the leak was discovered in the |stern gland of the starboard propellor. She turned back owing to the impossibility of effecting repairs at sea. Although a considerable amount of water entered through the damaged gland, the two pumps were sufficient to control the inflow of water, and
> both engines were worked at normal. A diver made an inspection this morning and assisted the engineers to remove the gland. It is expected that the Rotorua will be ready to resume her voyage this afternoon. On her last visit to England, the packing in the glands of both propellers was renewed. CORINTHIC DELAYED. WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. The Corinthic, expected next Monday, has radioed that she will not arrive till daybreak next Thursday.
