At N.S.W. Championships. “CHARLTON COULD HAVE BEATEN HlM.’’ SYDNEY, January 12. The New South Wales swimming championships have commenced. Borg was given an ovation when he appeared. Charlton watched the races from the bank. The boys’ 220yds championship was won by Cecil Light (Sydney) in the record time of 2.34. The 440yds resulted: Borg (Sweden) 1, Ryan (Manly) 2, Griffiths (Sydney) 3. Borg was soon in the lead, and won by 25yds, with the third five yards away. Time 5.5 1-5. The winner appeared to have little in reserve, and observers are of the opinion that Charlton could have beaten him. The 100yds backstroke resulted: — Campbell 1, Watson 2, Rowe 3. Time 1.143.
