Mishap with Carbolic Acid. LADY DOCTOR’S TRAGIC D.ND. GORE, January IZ. A sad aeeidknt, resulting in the death of Dr A. Mathieson, resident Ja<dy medical office at Gore Hospital occurred at that institution at 11.15 o'clock this morning. Dr Mathieson was working with carbolic acid when by some means the bottle was smashed and the acid splashed over her body and face, and it immediately began its deadly work. Dr Mathieson also suffered from shock and in a short while b came uneotnscious. Dr Lilli© was immediately called in and resuscitation effcorts continued for throe hours These efforts wei*-* of no avail. Dr Mathieson slowly sank and her death occurred between 1.50 and 2 o’clock this afternoon. Dr Mat hl-son came tc* Gore Hospital from Dunedin some four or five months ago and proved herself a very popular and efficient officer.
