A proposal has been taken up for a public presentation to Mr W. C. Braddon, ex-Fire Brigade Superintendent who was for 48| years a fireman, on the occasion of (the Fire Brigades’ Demonstration here next year.

At a public meeting to further organisation for the coming Fire Brigades’ Demonstration, it was stated by Superintendent J. J. Mclntosh that about 400 firemen would attend, and the prize money to be found would be £325, of -which the N.Z.F.B.A. would provide £lOO, leaving £225 to be ar ranged for, while he estimated that about another £175 would be required for entertainment purposes, a total of about £4OO. They had already a grant of £lOO from the N.Z.F.8.A., and nearly £l6O as the result of the recent entertainment. Hon 11. L. Michel, the Mayor (Mr E. A. Perry), Messrs D. J. Evans, W. J. Jeffries, G. Lakin and G. Heinz urged that substantial support from the public, both in town and country, should be forthcoming, and regretted the attendance w'as ndt larger at the meeting. A committee of those present was formed, with an executive comprising Messrs Michel. Perry, Mclntosh, Ross. E. W. Heenan and G. Heinz, with Messrs Lakin Evaiu and Coles as Secretaries. They [meet at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday. A motion by Mr Jeffries to set up a guarantee fund was carried.

For the formal opening of their fine hostel at Weheka.. next Thursday evening, Messrs Sullivan Bros have extended invitations to the County Council and Progress League members.

Tn view of the holiday season, a site for a shelter shed near the starting point of the track ascending Mount Tuhua (behind Kanieri Lake) has been selected by the District Engineer. and representatives of the local Tourist Society. The shed, to cost £lOO, will comprise a couple of rooms will have a good outlook on. the Jake, and will be convenient for motorists. Mt Tuhua is nearly 3700 feet in height, and is an ideal climb for the amateur and tyro mountaineer, while the summit affords a magnificent view. No doubt it will be a popular resort ere long. At the lakeside, Mrs Tulloch is having a refreshment room erected, which will supply a much felt want for touring parties and others visiting Lake Kaniori. The new road round the north side of Lake Kanieri to Dorothy Fall being constructed by a party of half a dozen men was inspected by the District Engineer a few days ago Tuhua Creek has yet to be bridged and culverts are needed, while it is proposed eventually to link up the road from the falls via the Styx River to the Kokatahi Valley road, giving a round the lake route for motors. Meantime. the funds to complete the road to the falls by the end of .next year have yet to be secured.
