M'r ’ M. Buckley and daughter, will return from Christchurch this < veuiug. Miss Franklin, who has been spendino a holiday as the guest V)f Mr and Mis Chauiley, of Cobden, leaves on Tuesday on her return to Auckland. The death is reported of Mr Richard Teece, General Manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, 'nd a noted actuary. Mrs A Galbraith and youngest son, of Nelson Creek, will leave by this morning’s express, on a holiday visit tu Wellington. Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Mines, has advised Mr H. E. Holland that he will visit the Buller electorate and the West Coast generally early next year.
Among the passengers for Chnatehurch by to-day’s express will be Mr G. Stitt (Managing Director of Brunner Collieries), Mrs J. North, and Mrs M. Beck.
Guests at the Albion Hotel include Mrs Thompson (.Christchurch), Messrs E. J. Scobie (Wellington), A. 8. Andef son, D. J. MacDonald (Christchurch), O’Connor (Christchurch), Kelleher (Christchurch).
The funeral took place yesterday of the late Mrs fiannah Price, of Tiromuana, being attended by friends of deceased from various parts of the district. The Anglican service at the Karoro Cemetery was conducted by Rev W. Bell, of Cobden, Rev Father Jas. Maguire, formerly of Greymouth, and now Inspector ot Religious Instruction for the Catholic Schools uf Christchurch Diocese, han been appointed Professor of Dogmatic Theology a|t Hedy Cross Ecclestiasli cal College, Mosgici. A cable states Mr Roy L. Curthoyo has been appointed Editor of the Melbourne •’Argus,” in succession Doctor E. S. Cunningham, who held that position for 22 years. Mr Curlhoys ’ age is 36 years. He gained his journalistic experience in Western Australia, at Pertn.
By the liner Maunganui yesterday the following passengers left Sydney for Wellington:—Lady Bell. Mr Hanan (N.Z. Legislative Councillor) and his wife, Professor Cotton, of Vic toria Coilege, and his wi4 e , *R whom are on a visit to Europe.
Prior to his departure on promotion to Wellington, Mr D. A. H. Cambridge, of the Greymouth telephone exchange, was presenteT by the P. and T. stall', with a travelling bag, and eulog Stic references were miwde to him by Messrs H. G. Davis (Chief Postmaster), Antwis (Assistant Superintendent, Telegraph Branch), Shannon
(Overseer), Su divan (Superintendent, Clerical Branch), and others of the staff.
Mr Alf. Templar, who this week arrived in Greymouth, with Mrs Temp.ar, as representative of the Gunnelson Nosworfhy Timber Proprietary, Ltd., ’was solo cornetist of the Melbourne Salvation Army Stall Baud, until his departure for New Zealand, and was tendered a send-ojff at the Brunswick Salvation Army Hall, together with Mrs Templar, who was a Sunday school worker in the Brunswick Corps, and the soprano soloist of riie Bongster Brigade, and a leading spirit in the Hume League. Many tributes were paid to the life and character of Mr and Mrs Templar, and o. suitable presentation was made. The death occurrqd. yesterday of Mrs Catherine Cooper, wife *of Mr John Cooper, of Gladstone Skiing. Deceased, whd» had been ill for only a brief period, and entered the Hospital for treatment, was 4S years of age, and was a native of Ross. She had resided at Gladstone biding since 1919, and was highly respected by ai! who know her. Besides her husband she "leaves two sons, Alex and Jame-, both ot Gladstone, and one daughter, Mrs Russ, of Hari Hari. She also leaves six brothers TWalter and James Muir, of Wellington; John and William. of Gladstone Siding; Andrew, of Taramakau; and A lick, of Wood’stock), and two sisters (Mrs J. Wonihouse, of Kanieri, and Mrs C. Wallace of Hastings-). The funeral will take place here this afternoon.
