Air Thos. Clarke, Superintendent, of the Greymouth Fire Brigade, last evening requested the Fire Board to accept his resignation as at the end of the year, owing to his health not enabling him to continue the duties. The Board, however, as on a previous occasion, persuaded Mr Clarke to remain in office until March 31st next. He now has been Superintendent for over ten years, whilst for fifteen years previously he was Deputy-Superintendent.

The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Airs Hannah Price, wife of Air Robert Price, farmer, of Tiromoana, near Charleston. The deceased, who was staying with her nephew. Air Thos. Groom, had during the afternoon been on a visit to her brother, Mr Samuel Groom, of Paroa, returning to Greymouth by the evening train, and on arrival at Air T. Groom’s residence, No. 86, High Street, after walking from Karoro Station, she collapsed on the verandah. Dr Ray was summoned, but on arrived he could only pronounce life extinct, death having been due to heart failure. The deceased, who was 76 years of age, had been a respected resident of the Tiromoana district for over forty years She leaves a family of ten, seven sons and three daughters, the latter being Airs Andrew Hunter (Granity), and Misses Rose and Ada Price (Tiromoana) while the sons are Edward (Westport), John (Christchurch), Samuel, George. William. Tsaih a".id Albert (Tiromoana). The. bereaved husband and family will have the sympathy of many friends jn their sudden lb'3s.
