A delightful party celebrated the birthday of Mr J. Cosgrove.

Mr R. Lowe has been taken to. hospital, to undergo treatment. We al! hope that he will soon be back among us, as “Bobby” is regarded as an in stitution in this district. Naturally, he is greatly missed. Last Sunday’s Union meeting provided quite a number of thrills. It certainly demonstrated what is called

On Sunday last a party of Burns’s enthusiasts visited Punakaiki, and en joyed a very pleasant outing, but of course the followers of Burns can enjoy themselves anywhere.

On Wednesday the Mayor presided at a public meeting called to consider improvements in the Dobson and Tay lorville Recreation Grounds. As usual, very few people attended. However, the local sports bodies are invited to appoint a represenrative to look after the interests of the respective bodies on the Domain Board, which is to be formed at the next meeting on Mon day, December 17th. at 7.30 p.m.

On Friday night the whole routine of the village was disorganised owing ; to some breakdown in the Pow n r Board equipment. The mine was obhg ed to knock off, and the local picture patrons also missed part of the enter tainment. Old age pensioners are cordially in vited to attend all picture shows, free of charge. The books of the Library have been audited, and reveal a credit balance of £2O Os Id, with no outstanding ac counts. The installation of officers of the Brunner Lodge, M.A.0.D., No. 64, took place at the half-yearly meeting at the Lodgeroom. Wallsend, on Wednesday, A.D., Bro J. Wilson. presiding over a large attendance of officers, . member?, and visitors. After the general meeting had been conducted. Dis I trict President Bro J. Williams, of ■ Westland Lodge, assisted by P.D.P. • Bro H. Keenan, installed the follow- ; ing officers for the current term: — ; J.P.A., Bro J. Wilson; A.D.. Bro Geo. : Morgan; V.A.. Bro J. Harper; V.A.8.. ! Bros 11. McLuskic and T. Morgan; I A.D.8., Bros J. Pender and R. Me Luskic; 1.G., Bro J. Cosgrove; 0.G.. Bro W. Cosgrove; Secretary. Bro 11. Keenan (re-elected); Treasurer. Bro Jas Nimmo (re-elected); Auditors Bros M. Malone and 11. McLuskic. Tim District President, in concluding the ceremony, thanked Lodge and member,-, and also district in general, for kind remarks and the reception that had been accorded to him during his term of office. The various officers replied thanking the D.P. for his address, add ing that the Lodge would have their best work in the interests of Druidisrn. The Lodge was then duly closed and the brethren adjourned to a social ev cning tendered t 0 them at Mr and Mrs McLuskic’s new residence. The din ing room was decorated with Japan esc sunshades and Chinese lanterns, and in the centre was a pyramid, ad orned with dainty fringes and tinselled streamers, which fitted admirably with the general scheme. Wilson; toast. “The Newly-elected Officers,” respon ded to by Bros J. Wilson. J. Cosgrove. T. Morgan and Geo. Morgan; song “Are We to Part This Way’” Bro) ,T. Pender; toast, “Brunner Lodge.” responded to by Bros IL Keenan and J. Nimmo; a community song; toast “Local Visitors.” responded to by I Messrs Wm. Purdie. Bobt. Fordam and J. Rothera. The tables were tastefully [laid, and the function concluded with I “Auld Lang Syne” and cheers for IMr McLuskic wi’i, and family.
