CYCLING.

MOTOR CYCLE RECORD. ATTEMPT TO LOWER IT. Arrangements are well in hand for an attempt this week on the world’s 24 hours record for motor cycles. The attempt will be made by Mr Alex Findlay on a 4.93 B.S.A. machine over the 6} miles course at Cowes on Phillip Island, which is being got in readiness for the event. The Shell Oil Company are providing refuelling dumps and also arranging to light the corners <lf the track with warning lights to the approaches. The start is officially scheduled for 2 o’clock on 23rd November, subject to favourable weather. The present world 24 hours record is given as 1117 miles, so that it will be neeesary to maintain an average speed of nearly fifty : efs an hour t 0 eclipse it. Mr Alex ,’Alay taced there last March.
