MILLERTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Smoko —The Millerton Communist Party held a smoko in the Miners’ Union Office on Saturday, to celebrate the Russian Revolution. A large , gathering of comrades was present. Comrade Ben Davidson, leader of the Millerton Group, in a brief speech, outlined the position in Bussia as it is to-day, and as it was before the workers freed themselves from serfdom. Comrade Davidson then called on Comrade Lock to toast “Success to our Comrades in Bussia.” In proposing the toast of the United Mine Workers, Comrade B. McGregor dealt with the good work that the United Mine Workers had done in the past, and hoped the same would be continued by the newly appointed officials. The toast was drank with musical honours. The toast of “The Workers of the World” was proposed by Comrade Ben Davidson, who spoke of the necessity of the workers making a united stand. The toast of “The Miners’ District Council” was proposed by Comrade A. Tosiland. who in the course of his remarks gave a brief account of his travels and experiences throughout Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The toast of “Women Comrades” was proposed by Comrade G. Potter, who thanked those who had carried out the catering and in other ways contributed toward the success of the evening. Comrade H. Stanley responded. During the evening songs were- sung by Mr B. Doyle (Danny Boy and Annie Laurie), Mr A. Millar (Where the Eiver Shannon Flows), B. Watkins (Bed Flag) E. Adams (Internationale). H. Stanley, A. Watson, G. Potter, and recitations were given by Comrades J. P. Smith, A. Tosiland (The Gum Digger’s Wedding). Amongst those present were: Comrades Ben Davidson, H. Stanley. E. Lock, R. McGregor, I. J. Smith, E. Graham. G. Potter, B. Adams, Jim Mcßean, A. Millar, J. MeQuilkin, R. MeLagan, T. Cook, B. Watkins, E. Doyle, A. Tosiland, A. Halloran. G. Smith, E. Connelly and A. Watson. The gathering concluded with the singing of the Bed Flag and the Internationale.
