BODIES IN ATTIC. Sordid Ballarat Crime. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn), v MELBOURNE, November 21. > lour months ago, Robert Viitue, o \ •allarat, reported to the police taa his daughter Harriet, aged four, liai gone lor a walk with William Hiddle aged eighteen, and had failed to re turn. The police were unable to trac’ the missing youth and child. The mystery of the disappearanc was explained to-day, when the bodies of Hiddle and the girl were found con , coaled .in a chimney in a house at 13a* la rat. The police are baffled concerning the affair. J ‘ LATER. Sordid details ape associated with tne di. covery of the bodies of Hiddle and Virtue. The little girl's mother was in Hospital at the time of the child ’> disappearance on July 18, and the lather purposely kept her disappearance from the mother and the police, for four days. The bodie s were discovered in an attic, between the ceiling and chimney in Hiddleown hone , Peel Street, Ballarat An unusual smell caused investigation, and the bodies ware found fifteen feet apart, bet we i» rafters. Both were dressed with tTre exception of shoes. There was a supply of blankets and fwoi candles; large butcher’s knife, a bottle bear a label, poison, and also a condensed milk tin—beside the little girl.
