ATHLETICS
OLYMPIC SCANDAL. AUSTRALIAN ARRANGEMENTS CONDEMNED. SYDNEY, November 4. Interest in the so-called Olympic scandal grows. Following the Australian team’s manager, Mr Duffy’s report to the Federation, naming Stuart and Bolger as having neglected their training during the trip, Stuart has declared that he will seek legal advice, as he considers that the charge amounts to defamation of character. He states he did more track work than any other member of the team, but, under the conditions, his chances were hopeless. Further than that, he would not speak at present. Pearce, the '’.culling champion, unhesitatingly denounces the training ar rangements. He says he would not have had a chance himself, but for action taken privately by his father. White, the Victorian Olympic representative, who is now in Sydney, sums up Mr Duff’s report as “bunk.” Ho says that the tour was a farce from beginning to end. The Federation should, in future, make arrangements that would give the Australians at least a lighting chance.
