CLEAN UP IN SAMOA.

Officials from N.Z. TO INQUIRE INTO CIVIL SERVICE. , AUCKLAND, Nov ember 3. One of the first things that the new Administrator of Samoa (Colonel S. 8. Allen) has done is tn ask for the appointment of responsible officers of the New Zealand Government to be sent down to Samoa to thoroughly investigate matters in the civil service of New Zealand’- mandated island territory. In response to his request, thc New Zealand Government has appointed three experienced men, who left by the Tofua this morning for Apia, where they will begin the work without delay. They arc Mr P. S. Verschaffelt (Public Service Commissioner). Mr G. A. Berendsen (of the Imperial Affairs Branch of the Prime Minister’s office), and Mr A. D. Park <Assistant-Secre-tary to the Treasury). Tho Admin.istn.ior asked that the Administration be advised on the matter of a reorganisation of the official staff, and alfc_ as to the finances of territory.
