RACING AND TROTTING.

TROTTING NOTES. (by “Original.”) Track work has been interesting of late, due no doubt t . the approach of the Metropolitan Meeting. J. J. Kennerly. after giving Peter Bingei( and .Jackie Audubon some s rong work without the hopple’, geared tin in up, and with Vesuvius they broke away on a mile and a half errand. Peter Bingen going off about 1-1 lengths in front of Jackie, with Vesavius two lengths further away. Travelling at a 2.20 clip, the trio were bunching up for the run home when Vesuvius broke, and Kennerley’s pair came home alone. Peter Bingen winning by almost a leng h, in 3.30 2-5 see. Fight- Ever, who looks bright and well, covered 1J miles unstrapped, in convincing style. Young Blake and Elzear were the next to take the track, and going away from a fair start, with the mare o n the outside, they raced on terms till a mile and five furlong; were covered, when Young Blake ran to the front, and Elzear took the inside running. The pace was now clapped on, and over the last bit Elzear finished half a length in front, in the good time of 437 on a dead track. Remember, Tomkinson, who drove Young Blake, had a good hold of him at the finish, and be racing lie had recently at Auckland should '"'able him lo beat the marc in the big trot. Epigram, jumping away on a mile and quarter mission, was picked up by Logan Holme and Darknite (the latter in saddle) at the mile post, and thc trio rattled along over the concluding 6 ages, Logan Holme just being in front of Epigram as the post was passed, with Darknite about a length further away. Lingfiild and Glideaway were companion ' over a very useful mile and three-quarter journey, with the former who looks a likely winner at the meeting, having slightly the better of i‘. Acre, alone, went very well over the whole of a mile and quarter journey. and pulled up well. Xl.••vegin was given several sprinting tasks which he did well, but on returning to tl”‘ scraping sheds, he showed signs of soreness. Silk Thread and Peter Swift wore compaiiien s over a mile and halt journey, the latter giving a very fine showing, though they finished on terms. Ib wa- well on thc outer all the way. Frisco Beau had Dolores as a mate in a good showing over 14 miles, neither trotter making the semblance of a .mist akt in a useful w.rkout. Prince Pointer with Logan Park as his mate 'broke away on a two-niile journey, the forim r get ing 1 3-5 seconds start. Before a mile had been co vexed in 2.26, Prince Pointer was up with him, and the pair, clapping on the pace over the stages passed the line with practically nothing between them. Th’e lime was 4.35 1-5 for Logan Park, and 4.31 2-5 for Prince Pointer, being quite sa’i-fac-torv considering the frack.
