The much discussed totalisatoi evoked interesting diver.ity before the Parliamentary Selec: Committee on racing. The machine was warmly supported by the Secretary of the Victoria Racing Club, but the Secretary of tho A’ictoria Amateur Turf Club declared racing would be impossible without betting, as no one would attend, while 'lie totalisator alone would produce an undesirable class in hosts of illegal bookmaker*. The machine would also greatly' increase the number oi‘ small bets. His personal opinion was that bookmakers alone, as at present, provided the best system. SALE OF ABE BAIL9Y S EA'JEHOBSES.
